What Is Porsche Design Eyewear?
A clear idea.
A personal expression.
Porsche Design eyewear brings the brand’s function-first approach to optical frames and sunglasses. De Rigo is its current eyewear partner.3 Bright Side Optical carries Porsche Design glasses in Austin, with personal guidance on fit, style, and prescription lenses.
You might first be drawn to a clean silhouette. Then a detail catches your attention: a bridge, a connection, a change in material. You turn the frame over and want to know more.
That curiosity is a lovely starting point for choosing glasses. The collection gives us something tangible to explore with you, beyond a name on the temple.
Ferdinand Alexander Porsche
The designer behind the 911
had more ideas to make.
Ferdinand Alexander Porsche designed the Porsche 911. In 1972, he founded Porsche Design in Stuttgart; in 1974, he moved his studio to Zell am See, Austria.1
The setting matters to the story. Porsche’s official heritage describes a designer drawn to family, mountains, and the quiet he needed to work. His interests reached beyond the automobile into the objects of daily life.1
There is something compelling about that transition: a familiar design sensibility becoming useful at a completely different scale.
His own words express the idea beautifully: “If you analyze the function of an object, its form often becomes obvious.”1
For eyewear, that gives us an interesting way to look. A bridge can do more than connect two lenses. A visible fastening can become part of the frame’s identity. A material choice can change both the look and the feel.
You can appreciate that way of thinking whether you love cars, architecture, watches, or simply an object that makes sense in your hands.
P’8478 · An Eyewear Icon
A practical idea
became a signature.
In 1978, Porsche Design introduced the P’8478. The brand identifies it as the world’s first sunglasses with interchangeable lenses.2
Look at the bridge and the details holding the lenses. The mechanism is part of what makes the aviator recognizable. You can see that someone thought about how the object would work, and allowed that thinking to shape its appearance.
It is a satisfying example of function becoming something you enjoy looking at. Once you know the idea, the frame offers more than a familiar outline.
At Bright Side, we bring that same curiosity to the actual pair you are considering. We discuss dimensions, how the bridge sits, how the frame feels, and what lens options are appropriate. Interchangeable sunglass lenses and a prescription lens plan are different questions; we assess your specific needs and model together.

Splitline · Geometry You Can Notice
A fine line can have
a strong point of view.
The Fall/Winter 2026 Splitline series uses 100 percent titanium and emphasizes separation lines and clean geometry. The P’81014 optical model brings that idea to a round panto shape.4
A lighter visual outline can still feel distinctive. Here, the interest comes from the relationship between curves and connections. It rewards a closer look.
During styling, we explore what that line does on your face. Does it leave your expression open? Does the shape bring your eyes into focus? Does a metal tone feel harmonious with your coloring?
The design gives us a starting point. Your proportions and the way you feel wearing it guide the choice.
Neo Blade · The Automotive Detail
A small connection
with a larger story.
Neo Blade draws inspiration from a Porsche brake caliper. Its signature metal bracket makes the automotive reference part of the eyewear. The P’81011 optical design uses an RXP® front with a squared shape.4
That is the kind of detail we enjoy showing you in person. Once it has been pointed out, you can see how a small element gives a frame its character.
We also look at the effect from a normal conversational distance. A technical detail should belong to a pair you enjoy wearing, with a shape and fit that work for you.
If you like a more defined outline or a little sporting energy, this is a direction worth exploring. We can compare it with a finer frame and help you recognize your preferred amount of presence.

Materials with a Purpose
Enjoy the idea.
Understand the actual frame.
Porsche Design uses different materials across its eyewear. The current collection includes titanium, RXP®, stainless steel, and acetate constructions.4 The material and design are specific to the model you select.
We encourage you to hold the frame, open the temples, and notice how it feels. Then try it on. A material description becomes much more useful when you can connect it with the actual experience on your face.
We confirm construction and manufacturing origin for the chosen piece. Porsche Design’s European design heritage gives you a story to appreciate; the specifications tell you about your individual pair.
For us, good styling includes both kinds of attention: the reason a frame interests you, and the practical reasons it works.

Frame and Lenses, Planned Together
Your daily vision
deserves the same attention.
A frame is part of a complete pair. We consider its bridge, width, lens dimensions, and position on your face alongside your prescription and how you use your glasses.
Tell us about your screens, reading, driving, and time outside. Those details help us understand what the finished pair needs to do.
For personalized progressive lenses, Bright Side uses Optikam measurements as part of the fitting process. Frame wrap, back vertex distance, and pantoscopic tilt inform lens personalization. Learn more in why some progressive lenses cost more than others.
The design story may bring you to the collection. Thoughtful fit and lens planning help make it a pair you reach for every day.

What is Porsche Design eyewear?
Porsche Design eyewear is a collection of optical frames and sunglasses shaped by the brand’s approach to purposeful design, technical materials, and the relationship between form and function. It comes from the design brand founded by Ferdinand Alexander Porsche in 1972.
Is Porsche Design eyewear connected to Porsche cars?
Yes. Porsche Design was founded by Ferdinand Alexander Porsche, the designer of the Porsche 911. The eyewear translates that design heritage into everyday objects. You do not need to own a Porsche to enjoy the frames.
Who makes Porsche Design glasses?
De Rigo is Porsche Design’s current eyewear partner. A brand’s design heritage does not establish the manufacturing country of every frame. Bright Side confirms the origin, construction, and materials of the specific piece you are considering.
Does Porsche Design make prescription eyeglasses?
Yes. The collection includes optical frames as well as sunglasses. Bright Side checks the selected frame’s dimensions, fit, and suitability for your prescription and lens design.
What is special about the Porsche Design P’8478?
Introduced in 1978, the P’8478 is an aviator sunglass design known for its interchangeable-lens mechanism. Its visible bridge and lens-retaining details make function part of its recognizable appearance.
Are all Porsche Design glasses titanium?
No. Materials vary by model and series. The collection includes titanium designs alongside other constructions. We explain the specifications of the exact frame you try, rather than applying one material claim to the entire brand.
What are Splitline and Neo Blade?
They are Porsche Design eyewear series. Splitline emphasizes clean geometry and separation lines; Neo Blade draws on a brake-caliper detail. Both include optical designs, with different shapes and materials depending on the model.
Can I have progressive lenses in Porsche Design frames?
Yes, when the frame is suitable for your prescription, fitting height, and lens design. Bright Side considers your visual needs and the frame’s position on your face. We use Optikam measurements as part of planning personalized progressives.
How much do Porsche Design glasses cost at Bright Side?
Your complete-pair price depends on the chosen frame, prescription lenses, and selected options. Contact Bright Side for a current quote. We explain the frame and lens choices before you commit.
