Lens Help, Including Progressives

A prescription is the starting point.
We help with what comes next.

You do not need to arrive knowing a lens brand, material, or design. We talk about how you use your glasses: a full day at the computer, reading, driving, meetings, or time outdoors. Then we explain relevant options for single-vision, progressive, computer, or prescription sunglass lenses.

For progressives, we consider your prescribed near addition, the frame you choose, how it sits, and the distances you use most. We take fitting measurements with the frame on your face, using Optikam to help capture how your glasses are positioned.

We also explain materials, coatings, and lens design differences in plain language. The goal is a complete pair chosen around you, with clear pricing before you decide.

Before Your Visit

A few things to bring.
No eyewear expertise required.

  • A readable paper or digital copy of your most recent eyeglass prescription.
  • Your current glasses, including any pairs that are uncomfortable or disappointing.
  • Your prescribing doctor’s contact details, in case anything needs clarification.
  • Your insurance information if you would like us to file your out-of-network claim. Insurance is not required to shop with us.

How current should the prescription be?

Check the expiration date on your prescription. Bring a valid, unexpired prescription for your lens order. If the date is missing or you are unsure, call or text 512-651-5186 before your visit so we can help clarify what is needed with your prescribing office.

If your prescription has expired or your vision has changed, contact your eye doctor about an update before ordering new lenses. You can still start a conversation with us about frames and styling.

You do not need to measure your own pupillary distance. We take the measurements for your selected glasses.

Have another question? Call or text our team.

Can I get glasses at Bright Side Optical with a prescription from another eye doctor?

Yes. Bright Side Optical in Davenport Village, Westlake welcomes valid, current eyeglass prescriptions from other optometrists and ophthalmologists. Bring your prescription for complimentary Guided Eyewear Styling. We help you choose frames and lenses, take the measurements for your selected pair, and fill your prescription.

Do I need another eye exam at Bright Side?

No. You do not need to repeat your eye exam here to buy glasses if you already have a valid, current eyeglass prescription. If it has expired or your vision has changed, contact your prescribing doctor about an update before ordering lenses.

How current does my glasses prescription need to be?

Bring your most recent eyeglass prescription and check its expiration date. It should be valid when you order your lenses. If no expiration date is shown or you are unsure whether it is still current, call or text our team before your visit so we can help clarify what is needed with the prescribing office.

Can you fill an outside prescription for progressive lenses?

Yes. We can help you choose progressive lenses using a valid outside eyeglass prescription that includes the prescribed near addition. We discuss your daily viewing needs, help select a suitable frame, and take fitting measurements with the frame on your face.

What should I bring to my styling appointment?

Bring a readable paper or digital copy of your current eyeglass prescription, your current glasses, and your prescribing doctor's contact details. If you would like us to file your out-of-network claim, bring your insurance information too. Insurance is not required to shop with us. Tell us about your work, hobbies, and anything you would like to improve about your current glasses.

Do I need my pupillary distance before I visit?

No. You do not need to measure your own pupillary distance before your styling visit. We take the measurements needed for the glasses you select, including progressive fitting measurements when applicable.

Can I use a contact lens prescription to order glasses?

A contact lens prescription is different from an eyeglass prescription. Please bring your eyeglass prescription. If you only have your contact lens prescription, ask your eye doctor's office for the glasses prescription from your exam.

Can I use out-of-network vision insurance benefits?

Yes. Insurance isn't required to shop with us. We accept all insurance plans out of network and file the claim for you. We collect payment up front, and any reimbursement comes from your insurance company and depends on your plan.

What if my new glasses do not feel right?

Contact us so we can check the glasses and fit. If the outside prescription needs verification or re-evaluation, you will need to return to the original prescribing doctor. Our outside-prescription policy explains the applicable verification and remake terms.
