The Short Answer
After 40, presbyopia gradually reduces the eyes' ability to change focus up close. A prescription that works for driving or a book may not place a desktop monitor in a wide, natural viewing area.
Measure your screen and decide whether you need one clear monitor distance, the entire desk, or people and objects across a room. That answer determines the lens strategy.
Four Useful Lens Strategies

Broad near and intermediate vision for screens, keyboard, phone, and paperwork, with limited farther range.
Balances desk tasks with some room vision for conversations or meetings, usually with less distance than an everyday progressive.
Covers distance through near in one pair, but may give the computer a narrower field than a work-specific design.
Measure Before Ordering
Measure from your eyes to each screen while sitting naturally. Record screen height, monitor size, multiple-monitor arrangement, desk depth, and how far away people or presentation screens are.
Bring a workstation photo. It can reveal a high monitor, off-center screen, or leaning posture that changes the prescription and design decision.
Frame Requirements
Choose a frame with enough usable lens depth for the selected design, a stable bridge, comfortable temples, and eye position that supports the measurements. The frame can still be colorful, architectural, refined, or expressive.
A sliding frame moves the lens zones and can undo the benefit of a carefully chosen computer design.
Do Not Buy the Coating First
A blue-light filter does not correct a working-distance mismatch. Current evidence does not show a reliable short-term eye-strain benefit from blue-light-filtering spectacle lenses compared with standard lenses.

Sometimes, but ordinary readers may be set for a closer book or phone distance. If the power is too strong for the monitor, you may lean in or lose clarity at the screen.
They can be adequate for shorter sessions, but the intermediate zone may feel narrow during sustained desktop work, especially with large or multiple monitors.
Current evidence does not show that blue-light-filtering spectacle lenses reliably reduce short-term digital eye strain. Prescription, working distance, blinking, lighting, glare, and ergonomics often matter more.
