What Is Nina Mûr?

Wooden eyewear with an artist’s imagination.

Nina Mûr is an independent eyewear brand that makes customizable birchwood frames in Madrid, Spain. Its collection brings together distinctive silhouettes, expressive surfaces, and a workshop that can produce an individual pair to order. Bright Side Optical carries Nina Mûr in Austin because that freedom lets us explore both the look you love and the details that make it work on you.

Look at a Nina Mûr frame from the side. The layers of wood become part of its beauty. Turn it toward you and the front might feel graphic, sculptural, playful, or quietly refined. It invites a closer look—and a more personal conversation about what your glasses could be.

A Family Optical Story

It began with a wish for more freedom.

Nina Mûr grew out of a family optical business that wanted to create its own collection without the usual industry constraints. The ambition was to make eyewear flexible enough to respond to the person wearing it.

Founder Lorena Serrano’s connection to glasses started young: she drew them as a child and accompanied her mother to optical trade fairs. Her later work in design, advertising, music, and sustainable fashion gave that early fascination a wider creative vocabulary. The brand’s history identifies 2018 as the launch of Nina Mûr.

Those beginnings help explain the collection’s character. Practical optical roots meet a designer’s curiosity about what a frame can become. At Bright Side, that is a compelling place to start: with a maker willing to consider the individual.1

The Beauty Is in the Layers

Birchwood you can see, feel, and appreciate.

Nina Mûr uses Finnish birchwood as the structural foundation of its frames. The brand reports that the wood comes from responsibly managed, FSC-certified forests. Thin layers are formed into an engineered structure designed for lightness, flexibility, and durability.2

In the finished frame, those layers remain visible at the edges and inside. The grain creates a rhythm that a flat front photograph cannot fully reveal. There is pleasure in knowing that the part closest to you has been considered, too.

That is one of the reasons we love showing Nina Mûr in person. Hold a frame, turn it over, and notice the transition from its expressive front to the warm, intricate structure behind it.

Inside the Madrid Workshop

Precision shapes the frame. Hands finish the piece.

The workshop makes its own curved plywood, presses it for more than 20 hours, and uses computer-controlled cutting to create precise forms. Sanding, varnishing, assembly, and quality checks then involve extensive manual work. Nina Mûr describes its construction process as approximately 85% manual, with a pair taking around 40 consecutive hours through the process.3

That time includes production stages such as pressing; it is not a promise of 40 hours of uninterrupted handwork. The appeal is the combination: exact geometry, followed by the attention that gives an edge its finish and a frame its feel.

Made to Order · No Stock at the Maker

A workshop that can begin with one pair.

Nina Mûr describes its production philosophy as made to order, with no stock. It can make a single pair and aims to avoid the unsold surplus that comes with mass production. The brand connects this approach to its slow-fashion values.4

For you, the exciting part is possibility. The conversation can extend beyond the exact size and color of the frame in front of you. An optical boutique can still have pieces to show and try; the maker’s no-stock model describes how it produces orders.

At Bright Side, we confirm the configuration, current availability, price, and expected timing before you move forward. The anticipation should come with a clear plan.

Extraordinary Customization

What if the frame you love could be made more like you?

You find a shape with the right energy, but imagine it slightly smaller. You love the outline and want a different front color. You want to explore nose pads for a more suitable bridge fit. These are exactly the kinds of conversations Nina Mûr lets us have.

At Bright Side, we can explore changes to the size of individual pieces, nose-pad options, and the color across the front. We take your idea to the maker and confirm the configuration for the chosen design. The point is to bring taste and fit into the same conversation.

Change the scale.

We can discuss resizing individual components, including the front and temples. A silhouette you love may work better when its proportions are reconsidered around your face.

Consider nose pads.

We can explore adding nose pads when the design and your fitting needs call for them. Bridge contact, lens position, and cheek clearance are part of the decision.

Choose your front color.

Bring us the color you imagine. The brand’s palette includes warm whites, pale pink, sunset orange, electric blue, and much more, across different surface finishes.8 We help you consider how the result will look with your coloring and wardrobe.

Make the whole pair work.

A beautiful frame needs a thoughtful lens plan. We consider your prescription and daily activities alongside the design, so your finished glasses feel as useful as they look.

Sometimes the most personal choice is a vivid color. Sometimes it is a quieter front, a better bridge, or a few millimeters that make the proportions feel right. You do not have to arrive knowing the answer.

Two Ways into the Collection

Everyday pieces. Creative adventures.

Essentials

Nina Mûr describes Essentials as versatile, everyday silhouettes: the foundation of an eyewear wardrobe. This is a place to begin if you want a pair that travels easily between work, dinner, and the rest of your week.

An everyday shape can still have a personal point of view. Its scale and finish change how it feels on your face.

Capsule collections

Capsules give a particular creative idea room to develop. A collaboration, an artistic influence, or an unusual material can become the starting point for a collection with its own identity.

For the person who collects design—or simply enjoys wearing something intriguing—this is where the conversation gets especially interesting.5

Eighties: design history you can wear.

The Eighties project partnered with Abet Laminati and drew on Ettore Sottsass’s colors, forms, and graphic patterns. It shows how a surface can carry a design reference as clearly as a piece of furniture or an object in your home.6

Okuda: color becomes sculpture.

The 2026 Okuda collaboration brings the artist’s geometric world to eyewear through color combinations and three-dimensional resin details. It was created as a limited, numbered edition—an example of the brand’s willingness to experiment.7

These projects illustrate Nina Mûr’s creative range. Ask us which capsules, finishes, and special pieces are available to explore or order now.

A Different Personality on Every Face

There is more than one way to wear Nina Mûr.

Look at these three brand images. One is playful and graphic; another is cool and understated; another makes color feel elegant. The pleasure is finding the expression that feels natural on you.

Why We Dare to Carry It

We want you to find a pair you could not have chosen anywhere else.

Carrying Nina Mûr reflects what we want Bright Side Optical to be: a place with a point of view, where you can discover something unexpected and have real help making it your own.

We choose this collection because we love its imagination and the room it gives us to work with you. A sculptural shape deserves more than a quick glance at a wall. A custom order deserves someone who considers the fit, explains the options, and coordinates the details.

You do not need to be the boldest person in the room to appreciate it. You might want a familiar silhouette in a color that makes your face come alive. You might want a remarkable second pair. Or you might discover that the frame you thought was “too much” feels completely right once it is on you.

Our job is to help you recognize that feeling—and make sure the fit and lenses support it. Explore why independent eyewear matters to us.

Nina Mûr Questions, Answered

Before you fall in love with a pair.

Where can I find Nina Mûr glasses in Austin?

Bright Side Optical carries Nina Mûr in Austin. During Guided Eyewear Styling, we explore the collection with you, assess the fit, and discuss custom options. Ask us about a specific model or capsule so we can confirm current availability.

Where are Nina Mûr glasses made?

Nina Mûr designs and produces its frames in its own Madrid, Spain workshop. Precision cutting is combined with extensive hand finishing and assembly.

What are Nina Mûr frames made from?

The structural core is layered Finnish birchwood. The visible wood edges show that construction; front colors and finishes create very different looks. Nina Mûr says its birch comes from FSC-certified, responsibly managed forests.

Can I customize the size, color, and nose pads?

Yes. At Bright Side, we can explore changes to the sizes of individual frame components, nose-pad options, and the front color. We coordinate the requested configuration with Nina Mûr and confirm the details for your chosen design before ordering.

Does Nina Mûr keep stock?

Nina Mûr describes its workshop model as made to order with no stock. That refers to the maker’s production approach; an optical boutique can still carry pieces to show and try. We confirm which frames and options are currently available at Bright Side.

What is the difference between Essentials and capsule collections?

Essentials focus on versatile silhouettes for everyday wear. Capsule collections explore a particular artistic idea, material, or collaboration. A capsule can be especially expressive, while an Essential can still be personal through its color and configuration.

Can Nina Mûr frames hold prescription or progressive lenses?

Yes. The brand designs its frames for prescription lenses. At Bright Side, we assess your prescription, chosen frame, and fitting needs together. For progressives, the lens depth and fit must support the lens design; we help you plan the complete pair.

Are wooden glasses comfortable and practical?

Nina Mûr uses engineered birchwood construction intended to be light and durable. Comfort still depends on the individual frame and its fit. We check the bridge, width, temples, and lens plan with you rather than assuming a material will suit everyone.

How much do custom Nina Mûr glasses cost, and how long do they take?

The total depends on the frame, custom work, prescription lenses, and finishes. We provide a quote and confirm production and delivery timing for your order before you commit. Capsule availability and the scope of the customization can affect the plan.
